Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi claims were the club are dreaming about a potential title victory.

The club have gone 14 years without the league title and the player believes that it is too long for a big club like Roma. The club moved to the top of the table with a 2-1 win over Fiorentina. At the start of the campaign, it looked like Inter Milan would be the team to beat. However, Roberto Mancini’s team have not won in the last five matches. They have slipped two points below Roma. Napoli, Fiorentina, and Inter are now realistically seen as the title challengers for Roma.

De Rossi has been criticised for not scoring goals regularly and he put this criticism to bed with a recent goal against Empoli. After the game, the 30-year-old stated that he wants the club to remain focused as they are now until the end of the season. He believes that it is the only way that they can end the trophy drought that has gone on since 2001. The team came very close a couple of seasons ago, but Juventus ultimately overtook them to yet another league title. This time around, Juventus have been a shadow and currently reside in the bottom half of the table.

“It’s an emotional moment, because you look back over all different stages before this point. I want to mark my history with this club with something even better. We are convinced that Roma are equipped to win the Scudetto, but being capable and actually winning it are two separate things.Aside from being my personal dream, it’s the dream of the whole city to win the Scudetto. It’s time we ended that wait. We deserve that next step and only time will tell if this is the right year,” said De Rossi.
