Roma came close to winning the Italian Serie A title last season, as they were surprise package under new manager Rudi Garcia. Now, expectations are high that they will be able to win the title in the coming season due to several reasons. Juventus, who have won the title in the last three seasons, recently parted company with manager Antonio Conte. Even though they have appointed former AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri, it is expected that this managerial change will be a weakening factor for the current champions.

Further, Juventus are also expected to lose one of their important players in the form of Vidal, who has been linked with Manchester United. The Chilean midfielder is expected to move to Old Trafford for around £ 47 million. This has put Roma as one of the favourites to win the title in the coming campaign. The Italian club have not lost key players during this transfer window, although interest from United is persistent on midfielder Strootman. One of the club’s most important players, Daniele De Rossi, says that the players are not thinking about winning the title.

According to him, they are just focusing on improving their fitness ahead of the new season. Roma are currently in the United States as part of their pre-season tour. They have faced the likes of Manchester United and Inter Milan.

“This year for the first time I will say we have to target the Scudetto, but targeting is not the same as achieving and it’s not as easy as people think. From what I hear people seem to say Inter are weak and Juve without Conte are an amateur team. On top of that, Romanisti [Roma fans] might make fun of Lazio, but they have constructed a good squad. Our objective is the Scudetto, but it won’t be easy,” said De Rossi.
