Italian midfielder, Daniele De Rossi who has been struggling with form could get replaced in current club AS Roma this summer.

The player along with Claudio Marchisio and Andrea Pirlo were the backbone of the Italian national squad for the last 6 years. They were truly a formidable trio and regarded at one point as one of the best in the world.

Marchisio is out now, and Pirlo semi-retired and playing in the US, leaving 32-year old De Rossi to salvage his national side during the French Euro 2016. Italy have used the midfielders to win second and third place finishes in the last Euro and Confederations Cup but De Rossi might have to get replaced during this upcoming tournament.

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has emerged as a transfer target for AS Roma to replace De Rossi.

Fellaini was spotted at Serie A outfit’s home – Stadio Olimpico – to watch them play Napoli while the Belgian was supposedly on a holiday in Rome.

According to the Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport, the club is looking to bring in reinforcements in the midfield to supplement the services of Radja Nainggolan and Miralem Pjanic as De Rossi has been in abysmal form this season. Former Barcelona player, Seydou Keita, 36, has reached the twilight of his career leaving the Italian club with no choice than seek to strengthen the midfield.

De Rossi has fallen in the pecking order of Lucio Spalletti. He has played just three games in the last seven in the Serie A for the Italian side. The very versatile player who plays in central midfield, centre back and even defensive midfiled for Roma has 518 matches on his belt, netting 54 times. With his recent drop in top performance, the Italy International could get replaced in both club and country after a highly successful career.
